Driving is a life skill and through experience of training learners we understand that it is important to learn this skill from the beginning of your driving career from an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), as bad habits are difficult to break. Simply starting your lessons with a professional instructor you will gain the knowledge and understanding of safe driving with the practical skill to exceed the test standard, which will increase your chance of passing the practical driving test.

Upon the basics being trained and you performing to the required standard LDS understand that private practice will increase your confidence and skill in preparation for you test, the instructor will give you guidance and further information for this when you are ready.

In order to practice with an accompanying driver, they must:-

• Be over 21 years old
• Have held a full UK Driving licence for three years
• Ensure the vehicle is taxed and insured for you to drive
• Display RED 'L' plates on the front and back of the vehicle

In order to learn to drive on public roads you must:-

• Be 17 years old (16 years old if in receipt of higher rate disability allowance)
• Have a UK provisional driving licence.
  (You can apply three months prior to your 17th birthday). You can start the process to learning the theory while waiting on you provisional licence. You must have your provisional licence before you can take any practical lessons.

The Process to drive unaccompanied on public roads:-

• Pass the theory test (combined theory and hazard perception )
• Take professional instruction with private practice upon instructor guidance
• Pass the practical driving test !
